Self described as “4 strapping sexy boys with a musical message that will contaminate your mind every day for the rest of your life..” Minnesota natives July Fighter will take the stage at the Fine Line on Saturday, February 18th with Charlz Newman, Nick Riley, and The Brian David Band.
Playing fan favorites like the wistfully upbeat “Know You”, and the toe tapping beat of “Failure to Function” off their first album, simply titled “July Fighter”. You can’t help feel this band was inspired by the old school songwriting of Lennon/McCartney.
Opening up at the 2009 Pride Parade in Minneapolis, Jimmy Lyback knew he could create something musically special and sure enough he has. A regular on the local music scene for several years this former member of Sunshine Behavior decided he wanted to create his own genre of music. Great lyrics, and top notch talent were the requirements and through several line-up changes and one album later this line-up sets them apart from the current cover bands that saturate the local music scene. Releasing their sophomore album in the next few months and currently working on their third CD, July Fighter is fighting to bring their fan base to another level, while continuing to cater to their current devotees.
Tight, energetic and goofy, July Fighter is packing houses across the Twin Cities and making their own songs local sing-alongs with tunes like the “Beatlesque” sounding “Dreams” and the infectiousness of “Echo” reminiscent of The Charlz Newman Band; another local favorite.
If you plan on seeing the show Saturday, I’d get there early, for clubs fill up fast to see these bands!
